Dominic grew up in the port town of Milford Haven in Wales. His father was a cargo ship Captain and was often away at sea during much of Dominic's childhood. Regardless, Dominic still looked up to his father as a role model and as a career model. However, his father's absence put a strain on his mother who was left to virtually raise three boys by herself. Dominic was the youngest of these three sons and at times, the most difficult.
Times got easier though; as the two eldest boys got older, they would go off with their father on a transport. This didn't leave much for Dominic to make trouble of. Perhaps it was the jealousy of his older brothers spending all the time with him or something totally different, but Dominic eventually started to grow more and more distant from his father, whom he had once idolized. Once Dominic got older, instead of shipping out with his father, he took small jobs along the docks. However, seeing this wasn't taking him anywhere, he started to grow aspirations for Starfleet. Dominic applied and was accepted into the Academy. Dominic was academically a good student, however behaviorally he would have received a 'D'. After a couple suspensions, he finally straightened out enough to graduate with a career in ship communications ahead. He was assigned to the USS Icarus as a communications officer, and after some bumps in the road, he served very well at this position for a year; resulting in a promotion as well. However, something about that work just didn't seem to click with him. He attributes it to the "bionic" earpiece he had to wear, but the real reasons are up for debate. Needless to say, Dominic decided to return to the Academy to take on a different position; navigations. The second time around was easier for Dominic as he really buckled down and studied, graduating again after two years. His first post as a helmsman was onboard the USS Hyperion. After a couple years, he was transferred to the USS America; a little older than the Excelsior Class Hyperion, but a ship is a ship. |
